What is remote replication
Remote replication is function that allows data to be replicated over distances. Replication can be done asynchronously, where changes to data are performed after a 'master' copy of information has been updated, or synchronously, where multiple copies of information are updated simultaneously. Synchronous remote replication is more complicated, expensive and imposes constraints on the physical distance between copies. Most remote replication is performed asynchronously, however critical applications such as banking transactions often require synchronous operations.
