Hello everybody,
I was wondering if anybody has experience with using NAS systems for CCTV storage?
All digital video surveillance solutions that I've seen so far were based on some pretty fast SAN systems and network cameras sending the information to processing servers which store and retrieve video files to and from a SAN system.
My thought process is that since the cameras are on the network they might as well record either directly to a NAS (some cameras support this) or the processing servers could store the files on a NAS eliminating the load to manage the file system and reducing the cost on storage are networking equipment.
Do you guys see any problem with that?
My client is interested in having about 2000 CCTV cameras at 768x492x25 resolution and probably using H264 compression. I am looking at IBM's SONAS solution or HP's X9720 as back-end storage.
Do you guys have any experience with the devices? Can you name some pros or cons for using a NAS instead of a SAN?
Thank you,
