Business Continuity 2010: How Cloud Computing and Virtualization Change Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
A collaboration between the Disaster Recovery Journal and the Wikibon Project
Wikibon is teaming with the Disaster Recovery Journal (DRJ), the #1 business continuity publication in the world, with a reputation for uncompromising integrity and delivery of in-depth knowledge to IT and business practitioners. In this Peer Incite, Wikibon will bring together its community with members of DRJ's audience to discuss critical changes organizations face as virtualization and cloud computing become more prevalent.
Here's the premise of the call: Virtualization is driving efficiencies and increased utilization. Ironically, from a recovery perspective, this means there are fewer resources to apply to business continuance and hence organizations that aggressively pursue virtualization risk constricting agility. Cloud computing provides an opportunity to improve business flexibility by delivering elastic capacity for DR and business continuance.
We have two special guests on this call - both active with the DRJ.
- Randy Till, MBCP, Executive Council Member on DRJ's advisory board; currently vice president, global business continuity management for MasterCard International; who has been implementing BC programs within several organizations during his 18-year career.
- Michele Turner, MBCP, FBCI, CISA, ITIL, Editorial Advisory Board DRJ Editorial Advisory Board Member and Sr. Mgr of IT Risk Management and IT Governance at Microsoft Corporation. Mrs. Turner has over 16 years' experience in Business Continuity and Risk Management efforts.
Please join us and participate in the conversation as we discuss:
- How can virtualization constrict organizational agility?
- What are the risks to cloud computing scenarios that need to be managed?
- Will business continuity and disaster recovery continue to be an after-thought or will cloud computing help make these disciplines a fundamental part of the operational culture?
