Companies like Sun Microsystems, IBM and Hewlett-Packard have found some success in “being green.” However, it has proven difficult for IT managers to get their departments in a more environmentally aware mode. According to a recent study sponsored by BlueArc:
- Nearly 20% of those polled spend more than $1 million per year on IT energy consumption, and 8 percent spend more than $10 million.
- Almost half said IT energy consumption increased in their organization last year, a problem compounded by rising energy costs.
- 46% reported that they had run out of space, power or cooling capacity at some point.
