People say that FCoE is the greatest technology after sliced bread, but I think really FCoE is giving a future to FC. I meet and brief many customers daily and one of the hottest topics is always cloud computing. The first thing you want to do if you go to cloud computing is to build a single network. No customer questions at this point that this single network is Ethernet. They may even some times - and here I may agree with Greg [Scherer of Broadcom] - that they deploy two Ethernet networks or three separate networks, but they basically want common cabling, etc. They also think that the future of speed is evolving. Sure, FC is doing 32Gb and maybe do 64Gb or 128Gb or whatever you want, but the future of high speed is in 40Gb and 100Gb Ethernet. And all of the investment in expensive architectures, optic optimization, bidirectional optics...whatever you want, is all going to happen for Ethernet. And all of the higher speeds are going to be Ethernet higher speeds with big volumes compared to small volumes for FC higher speeds, so there will an economic factor that will push the convergence to Ethernet. And a pragmatic factor that the more that you want to be flexible, the less likely to do FC. If you really want to have very flexible infrastructure for cloud computing, you need to have one network and that one network is Ethernet. Does FC have a future? Sure - FC has a future as FC Fabric service over Ethernet.
