Extensible Access Method (XAM) is a technology that is currently being standardized within SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association). It is expected that XAM will be implemented with several types of interfaces between applications and storage systems. XAM coordinates metadata to achieve interoperability, storage transparency, and automation for information lifecycle-based practices, long term records archive and retention, and information security.
The XAM Interface
The XAM Interface is an application-level interface that manages metadata between applications and storage systems. This new interface, which is initially being delivered as a set of APIs, provides a standard interface for applications and metadata to communicate with object storage devices.
