Wikibon initiates coverage of wireless in the enterprise
Mobile Enterprise portal focuses on adoption and IT issues
Wikibon, the source for open IT and business advisory knowledge, has announced a new community, the Mobile Enterprise. Championed by Kaushik Das, a consultant from Ottawa, Canada, the Mobile Enterprise portal seeks to be the Web's most useful source of open collaborative research and advisory on wireless technology.
Today, on the day of Apple's iPhone announcement, the Wikibon community gathered to analyze the implications of the iPhone to enterprise IT on a Peer Incite research call. The conclusions of the call were posted as Professional Alerts on the Wikibon Mobile Enterprise portal.
Peter Burris, formerly Co-research Director of Meta Group, a leading industry analyst firm acquired by Gartner, Inc. led the discussion and unearthed critical issues, including the degree to which the iPhone will attract development resources heretofore enjoyed only by the PC industry. As well, the community concluded that due to it's breakthrough packaging, technical development and relationship with its exclusive carrier, the iPhone can be considered a computing device with a phone and ushers in a new category of device.
