Over the years EMC has acquired over a billion dollars in software co. asetts; Legato, Documentum just to name two. What is the going forward strategy with these acquisitions; on the onset it appeared simply that applications that generated and accumulated storage was a natural fit for a storage vendor to sell more storage; however these acquisitions has bit into a good chunk of the EMC partner network, especially the Legato acquisition for the email archival industry; it takes major investment on the pure software application development side to maintain solutions like Documentum, these simply cannot be a means to selling more storage; So is EMC committed to this pure software application space? What is the longer term strategy for rationalizing all of the software acquisitions?
