Our next Peer Incite is scheduled for: Tuesday, September 29th - 12:00 noon ET.
The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is the academic home of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and creates massive amounts of data for its research activities. At this Peer Incite we’ll be joined by Eugene Hacopians, Senior Systems Engineer at Caltech who will discuss how Caltech efficiently manages more than 2 petabytes of data that comprises more than one billion small files of less than 25 kilobytes each in size. At this session we’ll discuss:
- How Caltech architected a system to handle such massive amounts of data, cost effectively.
- The architectural building-block approach Caltech designed to scale and accommodate growth.
- How Caltech automates the movement of data to an archive and uses spindown technologies to reduce energy consumption.
- How organizations, by better understanding their data and data flow, can avoid spending too much (or too little) on storage infrastructure.
