I'm looking at a project that requires me to manage storage environment of this company. There is one NetApp and 7 Windows storage servers.
The data is strewn all over and some of it has not been touched for months. It is challenging to monitor and manage this un-structured data. What would be the best way to monitor storage capacity and performance of all the storage servers and see classification of files (based on type, age, owner etc.)? I'd like to consolidate file types based on its usage patterns and also predict when I need to add additional storage. I can see scripts reporting all these statistics per server, but, are there are any applications or tools that you use to monitor storage environment in a consolidated manner? I'd appreciate if you could share your experience. Thanks.
