Hello, I've just been introduced to IOV after reading Dennis' excellent article in this months Storage Magazine. I must say that it's the "coolest" and one of the most interesting concepts I've had the pleasure of learning about with respect to information transmission and virtualization. It looks like PCIe and IB are currently the 2 technologies being explored for an IOV fabric. I'm still reading up on the protocol details (so please forgive me if my questions are so far naive) of each, but it looks like both are leveraging 8b/10b for encoding and that PCIe is using buffer credits for flow control. Does IB also use buffer credits or something different? With respect to the encoding functionality, in your experience does it seem like 8b/10b encoding is the most benefical candidate for it's job currently (given it's use in other areas)or are there other more efficient algorithms that may possibly be worth consideration? I am really looking forward to the growth of this ;-)
Thanks, Greg Phillips
