Boston: The Hub of the Big Data Universe
You might think Silicon Valley or even New York City is the center of all things Big Data. But you'd be wrong.
Boston is quickly emerging as the Hub of the Big Data Universe, and we've got the goods to back up the claim. In addition to today's announcement of a new Big Data initiative between MIT and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts called bigdata@CSAIL, a number of up-and-coming Big Data start-ups -- including Hadapt, DataXu, Mortar Data, InsightSquared and Hopper -- call Boston home.

Then there's the thriving Boston-based Big Data VCs scene, which includes former Vertica CEO Chris Lynch and Cambridge-based Atlas Venture, pumping Big Dollars into Big Data start-ups. Lynch is also overseeing the launch of hack/reduce, a community hacker space in Boston where Big Data practitioners can come together to share infrastructure, resources and ideas.
