For medical suppliers and others serving the changing healthcare industry, providing simple and secure methods of collaboration and communication - between product management, mobile sales teams, channels, and suppliers - can generate organizational and business value to all parties involved. While collaboration tools have been inside the data center for years, cloud-based services now provide an attractive alternative as many businesses engage with services from Google, Salesforce, Amazon, Rackspace etc. as centerpieces of a collaboration strategy. The reasons are obvious – these services provide short ramp-up times, broad accessibility, low start-up costs, and most importantly, less complexity. It’s exactly what end-users need -- and what CTOs and CIOs need to provide.
The acquisition and use of collaboration tools as a service requires a security strategy of course, starting with a focus on identity management. Identity and access management is a core enabler of business collaboration, supporting users as they move from service to service and inside to outside the data center, in many cases with unique security profiles, and compliance requirements and capabilities.
On August 3, 2010, the Wikibon community will meet with Lincoln Cannon, Director of Web Systems for Merit Medical, to discuss identity and access management (IAM) in the cloud, and his companies experience using identity management as a collaboration enabler across the Merit workforce, partner network, and technology ecosystem.
On the call we’ll be discussing:
- How the Merit Medical product group and mobile workforce drove a “secure move to the cloud” – challenges, goals, results.
- Security as a workflow and supply chain enabler
- What the CIO and CISO required for identity and access management (e.g., single sign-on, strong administrative control, integration with Active Directory and security workflows)
- The importance of interoperability and a standards based security platform for identity and access management.
Please join us and participate in the conversation.
