Is zero-data-loss disaster recovery achievable? Is it affordable? The desire for a tighter recovery time and a zero-data-loss environment to support the company’s $5Million/day in real-time order entry drove Animal Health International to look for a new disaster recovery solution. With a totally virtualized data center, one of the first to run SAP in a virtual-server environment, Tim Hays, VP of IT, knew that if he could get all of his data into a SAN and replicate that SAN to a second data center, then he can easily duplicate the production environment and meet a very short RTO. The problem was that the cost of synchronous replication was too expensive, both in initial equipment acquisition cost and in ongoing bandwidth expense. The company was resigned to live with 15 - 30 minutes of data loss, until he learned of a new solution that integrated with his existing infrastructure.
