Quick question about Wikibon sizing vs Gartner

I have loved reading your articles on big data, Hadoop, Cloudera, etc. Thank you!
One quick question. I saw that Gartner is estimating a Big Data market of $28B in 2012. Any idea why that's so different from Wikibon's estimate? I'm guessing their methodology/scope/Big Data definition is different?

I believe the gartner number is spending (including end user spending). The Wikibon study is a supply side view.
Jeff may have some additional info on the Gartner study - I think it's fire walled so I'm going on assumptions.

Yes, I believe Dave is correct. Gartner's estimate includes spending by enterprises on technology supporting Big Data but also staff (such as hiring and paying Hadoop admins, Data Scientists and others.) Also, I believe their scope is much broader in terms of what Gartner considers Big Data. We do not include, for example, most of Oracle's Exa- revenue because we do not believe it fits the definition of true Big Data, even though the data volumes involved are indeed often quite "big."
