When: 12 Noon ET
The debate in the marketplace is not whether to virtualize Oracle - it's clear that test and dev as well as smaller systems greatly benefit from aggressive virtualization of Oracle databases. Disagreements arise however over how far into the Oracle application portfolio customers can push virtualization.
On one side of the coin are practitioners who feel virtualizing Oracle is too risky due to concerns over performance, security and Oracle support. Others feel that virtualizing Oracle decreases risk because it improves testing, recovery and simplifies migration.
On Tuesday, May 3rd the Wikibon community will gather with industry practitioners to review findings of a recent Wikibon research study around this important topic. On the call we'll be joined by Bill Santilli, a technology consultant who helps Fortune 500 companies understand the challenges of new technologies including virtualization. In addition, Nathan Biggs, CEO from House of Brick, a VMware consultancy, will join the discussion.
Key topics we'll explore include:
- When should you virtualize Oracle?
- What risks do users need to consider?
- How can these risks be mitigated?
- Will Oracle support virtualization?
- What are the performance implications of virtualizing Oracle?
- What hidden cost users should consider?
