Mark your calendars for Wikibon’s next Peer Incite ... Tue, July 10th!
In a recent survey of Wikibon practitioners, the #1 and #2 challenges cited for Big Data initiatives were:
- dealing with large and growing volumes of structured and unstructured data and
- the ability to create value and ultimately monetize this data.
Organizations use different approaches to solving Big Data problems with varying degrees of success. For example, while non-hypothesis-driven analysis and data visualization techniques enable organizations to discover previously-unknown relationships and groupings, deriving monetary value from these insights has been challenging for some organizations. Meanwhile, hypothesis-driven Big Data analysis (i.e. testing “what if” / “if then” scenarios) is being applied to business decisions immediately at hand, delivering tangible value by de-risking the decision-making process and increasing the speed and confidence of decisions.
Brigham Hyde, Ph.D., Managing Director at Relay Technology Management, is leveraging both structured and unstructured data, including the full complement of patent documents from the U.S. Patent and Trade Office, to reduce decision-making risk for pharmaceutical companies and their investors. Relay understands that, while all data is valuable, all data is not of equal value. Relay leverages the combination of structured and unstructured data, automating the computation of a relative value index (RVI) that assigns value to information and leads to better decision making.
In addition to Dr. Hyde, other attendees will include Wikibon analysts, Attivio CTO Sid Probstein, and many more members of the Wikibon community. Please join us as we discuss:
- How this leading practitioner got started on the path to Big Data value creation
- What solutions can be used to address the growth of unstructured data
- The organizational challenges associated with adding unstructured data and content to an analytics practice
- How to combine unstructured data with structured information
- Common pitfalls when bridging the gap between structured and unstructured data
- How to determine which sources of data are more important and more valuable.
- How to define and apply hypothesis-driven Big Data analytics and non-hypothesis-driven analytics.
- How to deliver valuable insights to non-power end-users.
