Recorded audio from the Peer Incite:
Like backup, the business value of archiving is often questionable. At the same time, the legal community has put forth edicts that require organizations to archive and retain mountains of data; often indefinitely. Sometimes, this information contains golden nuggets in terms of valuable business insights and historical records. Unfortunately just as often, organizations are unable to find what they need, when they need it. This increases costs and risks for companies of all sizes.
The path to addressing this issue starts by taking a holistic approach to understanding the problems and opportunities associated with archiving. In addition, what’s needed is collaboration among key stakeholders to put in place clear policies and a process that combines machine and user generated classification. As well, a new class of metadata is emerging that can be exploited to provide higher quality archiving experience for lines of business, legal, records managements and other stakeholders.
At the next Peer Incite, we’ll be joined by Joe Martins, Managing Director of the Data Mobility Group. Joe is an expert in archiving with a background in engineering, product management and business analytics.
Please join as we explore the following key client issues:
- How and why is archiving broken?
- Which stakeholders should be involved in solving the archiving problem?
- Can humans effectively classify data?
- What metadata models will emerge to address archiving challenges?
