Where storage as a service fits

STaaS (storage as a service) should not be considered as an alternative to other tactics for gaining control over capital expenditures related to storage. STaaS, while shifting CAPEX to OPEX will bring other challenges in terms of privacy, control, process auditing, switching costs and the like-- it is not a panacea, rather an emerging service that will co-exist with on-premise offerings.
