Email archiving solutions today are tactical

In designing strategies for unstructured data, IT organizations should avoid strategic dependence on products that try and integrate the infrastructure and end-user function within the same solution. Retail Giant Tackles Email Archive

CS5 is retail organization with over 250,000 employees. The Exchange email system has about 75,000 seats and about 500,000 messages every day. Fluctuating energy prices have heightened electricity and energy consumption as a major issue within the technology community. IT is a significant consumer of energy and IT energy costs have been rising disproportionately because of continued investment in denser IT equipment. Estimates from the EPA and others indicate that IT will account for 3% of energy consumption by 2012.
