Why Outlook over Lotus Notes?

The corporate as well and the non corporate world has been loaded with applications that connect them better with the online world. Be it a basic note or complicated management software, the main motive for any of these is nothing but the convenience of the user along with the utilization of all resources yet not consume time to give best results.

Talking of convenience, every single person out there that has anything to do with a computer or is somehow or the connected to the online world has got email playing a definite role in his/her life. What more, the growing business of any and every person makes their life hectic, and that is where an email client comes into picture. Two booming giants namely Outlook, a product of Microsoft and Lotus Notes a product of IBM are what come into mind as soon as the topic of email clients is pointed out. But why is outlook considered to be better in all terms over Lotus notes? Read on and you shall know.

Cost and Maintenance - A must: When it comes to using a software of any sort, two points shoot up with ease that the software must be cost effective and the maintenance should be easy and quick. Outlook wins in both cases as Microsoft Suite includes outlook so you don’t have to pay up on it separately and maintenance for outlook comes easily. Lotus Notes on the other hand needs to be purchased separately and maintaining it is a bulky thing.

Time Savior: You don’t want to waste time while using a software, that’s a big NO. Outlook beats Lotus Note here too. Sign in with multiple account at the same place in outlook unlike having a separate login for each account in Lotus Note.

User Interface: User interface is another face of the software. Lotus Notes has a great UI built that can be used as per the needs of the user. But Outlook has this benefit of being assemble under the limelight of Microsoft, giving it a better functioning GUI that is known and easily usable for and every user. What more, Outlook comes with a bundled features that are separately usable for a professional and if not them then an amateur too. You don’t need any training in order to use Outlook over any other software unlike Lotus Note, having a complicated user understanding.

Migrate and Rejoice: Your must made up your mind to get on the move with outlook, well that itself is a benefit of its own. The migration from Lotus Notes is surely possible with ease. Although one problem arises that Outlook uses its own personalized database named Personal Storage Table or PST whereas Lotus Note uses NSF to store the data. Converting NSF to PST possible at all times but the feature is unfortunately unavailable in the software. You need commercial software to convert this. Once you’re able to do that, you can get on with outlook sleekly as you want. Recommended tool if you are thinking to perform Notes to Outlook Email Migration - http://nsftopstconverter.stellarservertools.com/

Lotus Notes did try out to innovate the software to provide their users more than just Email Interface. Implementing a variable feature list such as editing documents, presentations and spreadsheets along with combining it with custom business applications such as HelpDesk, CRMs, Sales Force, Discussion Forums, Blogs etc. But nothing could beat an already settled Outlook in the online market giving it a hell lot of leads as one of the all time favorite email client.

Understanding the basic interface got outlook to a boom of what it is today. If sides are to be measured into the form of percentage, outlook would take up over 85% of the market and clients who would want to use it as the Email client.

To conclude it all up you now know whether or not to choose Outlook over Lotus Notes even after the elaborated praise of it. What more, in the coming years the value of this product won’t go down at all as every industry involved with the online world (which apparently accounts to every industry)goes onto pump themselves and reduce the time factor by using Outlook as their first and preferably the only Email Client.

Financial giant goes green

The corporate IT group of a very large, worldwide financial organization with 100,000 employees, has initiated an ongoing “greening” process. This is focused largely on reducing energy use both to decrease the corporation's carbon footprint while creating a net savings in operational costs over the lifetime of new, more energy-efficient equipment, including new storage systems.

Planning a Green Storage Initiative

Fluctuating energy prices have heightened electricity and energy consumption as a major issue within the technology community. IT is a significant consumer of energy and IT energy costs have been rising disproportionately because of continued investment in denser IT equipment. Estimates from the EPA and others indicate that IT will account for 3% of energy consumption by 2012.
