WikiBon is a free research and advisory service that anyone can edit. You have questions? WikiBon has answers. WikiBon began as an idea to make available an open, wiki-based source of peer-reviewed information on best practices in business systems and IT. The first portal being developed is the information technology portal and '''[[Portal:Storage|Storage]]''' best practices is the first category being populated in IT. This is the WikiBon prototype. We're inviting a limited number of storage experts to add content to a core stencil. Any content added to this space will be regarded as free open source content. The intention is to learn from creating this wiki, and to expand to other IT and business practice areas.

WikiBon has good intentions. Not only is this wiki free of charge but it's free as in freedom. You are free to do whatever you want with this wiki (as long as it’s not vulgar, unethical or illegal), including using it for non-commercial or commercial purposes. The information in this wiki is written by you and your peers; experts in their respective fields willing to share their experience for the greater good. WikiBon is not about making money. Organization of WikiBon

We've made a number of assumptions about the organization of WikiBon.

WikiBon philosophy

Community behavior should be guided by a few simple principles.

WikiBon Content is Instructive

WikiBon is a resource for transferring knowledge from people with solutions to people with problems. A solution in this context isn't necessarily a product or a service, but rather a coherent combination of actions and things that can be consistently applied by an individual or group to reliably improve a given situation at work, at home, or in a community. Ultimately, WikiBon entries should provide insight into how to get something done, not just facts about what something is.

The Best Instructive Content Is Peer Reviewed

WikiBon is a free and open catalog of collective wisdom. All WikiBon content is free. Most WikiBon content will be open to edit by anyone. Where editing restrictions are in force, we'll explain why. Entries will evolve as contributing members add their differential experience to WikiBon articles. Edits should capture insights relating to scale of detail, scope of consideration, environmental adjustments, or technological changes. In all cases, the test of an edit will be simple: is the information in the article easier to apply, or not?

Clear and Concise Content Conventions Improve a Peer Review Process

At minimum, two types of content conventions are necessary to make any peer review process work. The first is that articles should follow a common form to keep the costs capturing, reviewing, and using content as low as possible. WikiBon will publish different WikiBon tools and guidelines for capturing content, which themselves will be open to review by the community.

Second, the peer review process must facilitate improvements, encourage civil discourse, and appropriately reconcile opposing points of view. WikiBon has adopted Wikipedia's community rules for peer review.

We run this not-for-profit wiki on a low budget, funded by donations from benefactors, with the intent of getting information into the hands of individuals and professionals around the world who need it most. Free, open, international...good.

Differences from Wikipedia

WikiBon is similar to Wikipedia in terms of its rules, openness, committment to peer review and system of governance. It differs in content, however. Wikipedia is fact-based and has a strict no original research policy . WikiBon, on the other hand, encourages independent thoughts, opinions and experiences with the explicit intent of helping people get good work done.

WikiBon's contribution policy stresses independent thought and experential "how to" advice.
