Webinar: Finding The Right Storage Virtual Appliance

This Webinar is now available to watch online. Webinar Date: 14 December 2012

Discussion on how a Storage Virtual Appliance (SVA) solves many of the challenges associated with physical storage in multi-site environments.

Please visit http://vimeo.com/channels/stormagic to watch our video

A big thank you to Timo Haas, CEO at Blackned, for sharing his experience in finding the right SVA for the German Armed Forces’ Deployable Access Network.

Questions And Answers from Event

Q: What RAID cards did you use to get the best performance? A: We used paired HP servers with with standard Built in RAID, we ensured we used Raw Disk Mapping instead of VMDK to to get the best performance from SvSAN

Q: How Is SvSAN Licensed? A: SvSAN is licensed per server and on capacity. It is sold as standard with 2 licenses for 2 server HA Mirroring. Single Licenses are sold on request. To see StormMagic’s full price list please visitstormagic.com/shop.php

Q: Is SvSAN supported on all RAID devises listed on VMwares HCL? A: SvSAN is support on most RAID devices, but if in doubt we welcome emails to support@stormagic.comwhere they can confirm.

Virtualization Energizes Cal State University

John Charles is the CIO of California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) and Rich Avila is Director, Server & Network Operations. In late 2007 they were both looking down the barrel of a gun. The total amount of power being used in the data center was 67KVA. The maximum power from the current plant was 75kVA. PG&E had informed them that no more power could be delivered. Storage Virtualization Design and Deployment

A main impediment to storage virtualization is the lack of multiple storage vendor (heterogeneous) support within available virtualization technologies. This inhibits deployment across a data center. The only practical approach is either to implement a single vendor solution across the whole of the data center (practical only for small and some medium size data centers) or to implement virtualization in one or more of the largest storage pools within a data center.
