| About Me: Tom Sheffield is the Storage Evangelist at Dot Hill Systems. His extensive background in the computer industry has enabled him to obtain a well rounded understand of various technologies as well as challenges customers face in the market today. His hands on approach over the past 24 years has allowed him to experience a wide range of responsibilities spanning R&D, System Level testing and integration, Back office management, ISO, Account Management, Service, product management as well as Marketing.
Prior to joining Dot Hill, Tom was the product boss for the SUN StorageTek 3xxx product line, which provides even today, the best in class with regards to performance, price, and form-factor addressing a broad spectrum of business needs. All of the products are build to satisfy the rigid requirements of NEBS Level 3 certification as well as Milspec 810F compliance and support. Tom had been directly involved with the SUN StorageTek 3xxx product family since January 2002 and was responsible for the continued evolution of the workgroup storage offering. Prior to becoming the product boss, he was a key contributor in several strategic alliances including Hitachi and Dot Hill. Tom was also responsible for managing the system level testing of all of the storage products offered by SUN as well as Technical Publications, Release Coordination, and 3rd Party Quality. Mr. Sheffield was recruited by SUN in 1997 as part of the Encore storage acquisition for his extensive career background in the storage and server industry. With over 24 years of experience ranging from Real-Time and Simulation systems, Mainframe storage as well as Unix and Windows environments. He also had extensive knowledge on highly customized implementations of shared storage between mainframes and wide range of operating systems.
